According to the indictment, the employer would have laundered money and hidden capital to the Treasury, both Swiss and Italian, through sponsorship of sporting events. Prosecutors suspect the team is using a fictitious Forward sponsorship and black money, no VAT charged.

Cuzari, de nacionalidad italiana pero residente en la localidad suiza de Lugano, fue detenido el lunes de la pasada semana (13/7) por las autoridades del cantón suizo de Tesino acusado de supuesta prevaricación y evasión fiscal, corrupción y blanqueo de capitales. Pese a la gravedad de la acusaciones, se esperaba que en pocos días el propietario del equipo Forward Racing pudiera aclarar la situación y abandonar su encierro, pero pasados diez días del mismo, las autoridades locales mantienen el encarcelamiento.

Según la acusación, el empresario habría blanqueado dinero y ocultado capitales al fisco, tanto suizo como italiano, por medio de patrocinios de eventos deportivos. La fiscalía sospecha que el equipo Forward utiliza un patrocinio ficticio y dinero negro, cobrado sin IVA.
Cuzari, además de propietario del equipo Forward, con estructura en los mundiales de MotoGP y de Moto2 (con los pilotos Simone Corsi y Lorenzo Baldassarri), es uno de los intermediarios de patrocinadores más activo del mundial, habiendo conseguido sponsors personales a diversos pilotos, tanto italianos como también españoles, así como asesoramiento a nivel financiero, por lo que no se descarta que algún miembro más del paddock pueda verse salpicado por este caso.

A dos semanas del inicio del Gran Premio de Indianápolis, primera prueba que se celebrará tras el parón veraniego, la presencia del equipo Forward en la parrilla de MotoGP parece cada vez más complicada. Desde el equipo se ha enviado un SOS a los promotores del campeonato, así como a los patrocinadores del equipo que ante el caríz de los acontecimientos han decidido cerrar el grifo de las aportaciones al equipo. La falta de liquidez, ahora mismo, es un verdadero problema a la hora de afrontar un gran premio trasatlántico, ya que para enviar las motos y piezas a Indianápolis hay que pagar por adelantado.

En declaraciones a la web italiana GPone, el team manager del equipo, Marco Curioni, asegura que “el problema es que los patrocinadores han bloqueado los pagos y no disponemos de fondos propios para seguir adelante. Arrastrábamos ya un poco de retraso en esos pagos, y estoy tratando de hablar con cada patrocinador para tratar de desbloquear la situación”, una situación que pone en peligro el sueldo de 40 familias que dependen del equipo.
Según Curioni, Dorna está al tanto de toda la situación y están trabajando codo con codo para tratar de buscar soluciones. “Estamos en contacto diario con Dorna, estudiando la forma de arreglar la situación, perono sé si habrá una intervención directa por su parte”, aclara.
El GP de Indianápolis, casi descartado
Una de las posibilidades que se están estudiando, según GPone, es la de saltarse el Gran Premio de Indianápolis, una posibilidad que podría conllevar una penalización importante según el reglamento, y reengancharse al campeonato en la prueba de la República Checa, que es la siguiente en el calendario.
“No es una cosa que podamos decidir nosotros, debe ser la IRTA (asociación de equipos) quien lo diga, creo que la situación excepcional en la que nos encontramos merece una dispensa”, argumenta Curioni.
El tiempo apremia, ya que las motos y el material deben volar a los Estados Unidos la próxima semana, y hay que decidir si se llevan las cajas hasta el aeropuerto de salida. “Sabremos alguna cosa seguramente este jueves (mañana), entonces ya deberíamos saber si vamos o no”, mantiene Curioni, quien asegura estar ahora totalmente centrado “en desbloquear la situación para poder seguir adelante con el equipo, sobre todo por todos sus miembros y sus familias”.
Sobre la situación de Giovanni Cuzari, explica que “no tiene nada que ver lo que se está investigando con el equipo, pero difícilmente va a poder salir en libertad antes del GP de Indianápolis. Pero esos son otros temas”.
